Milkor 40mm Multiple Grenade Launcher.MGL-140 .
Roles of MGL application

The Milkor MGL-140 may be used in both the offensive and defensive roles by typical and counter insurgency forces. In its traditional role it can be given to Infantry soldiers as a first weapon in both the direct- and indirect fire support role.

The amazing pin-point warhead delivery up to 150 meters with a high first time hit likelihood is achieved with sighting system specifically developed for the MGL-140 which allows for extraordinary flexibleness in mission targeting. The high psychological impact and shock effect of the acute fire power make the MGL-140 a perfect weapon for Counter Insurgency and other Elite forces, including Police Task Force teams.

The MGL-140 weighs less than a normal assault rifle and is thus straightforward to use within confined spaces during mobile, and maritime operations. It is excellent to be used by quick deployment forces whether deployed by land, sea or air.

The MGL-140 may be used with non-lethal ammunition and is so ideally appropriate for use by Police agencies in Crowd Management missions and in Detention or Prison Management where the use of deadly force is unwanted or unnecessary.

Weapon Description

The MGL-140 uses a gradually rifled steel barrel, mounted in a chrome steel frame. The back of the frame swivels to permit direct access to the revolving cylinder magazine. This format has the benefit of that all loaded rounds are instantly selectable to the soldier when the weapon is opened and individual rounds can be changed as needed.

The cylinder is driven by a spring that is rewound by rotating the cylinder during reloading. Cylinder advance and alignment are managed by an inertia operated advance mechanism that is turned on when a round is fired. The advance mechanism may also be operated manually to select the following round and to advance the cylinder in the event of a misfire. An extractor is fitted to the back of the cylinder to facilitate the expulsion of spent cartridge cases.

The firing mechanism is of the double-action type and operates independently from the cylinder advance mechanism

The electrical reflex sight immediately adjusts the brightness of the reticule to compensate for ambient light settings. The sight base provides rapid range adjustment and adjusts mechanically for the natural spin-induced drift of the grenades.

Alternatively the MGL-140 may be used with the Mechanical Sight. The mechanical sight is a more economical option to be used for closer targets.

The adjustable stock is of a very light construction and an integral recoil pad keeps it gentle of the shoulder. The stock has 2 positions : the open position extends the butt backwards. For storage, transport, and use in enclosed spaces, the stock can be closed to shorten the weapon by 80mm. The stock also has two vertical positions that may be selected to permit less complicated firing at higher elevation angles.

The MGL-140 series of launchers are totally designed, developed and approved based on the most stringent and contemporary Army Standards and NATO Specifications. Milkor's successful story of just about thirty years in the generation, development, manufacturing, prime contracting and logistic support of 37/40mm Low Speed Grenade Launchers all over the globe is mythical. Add to that the most current and stringent compliance qualification standards. And you have a bold grenade launcher system.
